Fire departments across the Lower Mainland check extinguisher tags during routine inspections, and an out-of-date or missing tag is one of the most common violations written up. Beyond the fine, an extinguisher that hasn’t been checked may have lost pressure, have a clogged hose or a corroded cylinder — and you only find out when you need it. Our inspection follows NFPA 10 and the BC Fire Code: we check pressure, weight, hose and nozzle, pin and tamper seal, mounting height and signage, and the manufacture and last-test dates, then tag it and give you a report you can hand to the inspector.
Based at Unit 105, 3273 King George Blvd in South Surrey, we serve Surrey, White Rock, Langley, Vancouver, Burnaby, Delta, Richmond, Coquitlam, New Westminster and North Vancouver. Walk-in inspections and recharges are welcome at the Surrey office — many contractors and boat owners simply bring their extinguishers to us.
Restaurants and commercial kitchens (Class K and hood-adjacent units), strata corporations and property managers (common-area extinguishers and emergency lighting on one annual schedule), construction sites (frequent counts, rough conditions, quick replacements), warehouses and shops, medical and dental offices, schools and daycares, and vehicle and marine owners.
A quick visual check monthly by the building owner or staff, and a full inspection and tag by a qualified technician once a year. Certain extinguishers also need internal maintenance at 6 years and hydrostatic testing at 12 years (5 years for CO₂ and some water types).
Most dry chemical extinguishers can be recharged and tested for far less than a new unit, as long as the cylinder is in good condition and within its test dates. We’ll tell you honestly when replacement is the better value.
